I have a love/hate relationship with the Holiday season. I used to love them, but when I lost Enzo that love started to die down. I’m slowly getting to a point where I can tolerate the Holiday’s and can get through them without crying or kicking and screaming my way through. Progress people, progress. Don’t get me wrong, it is still incredibly difficult for me to be happy during the holidays or to enjoy them to the fullest extent. There will always be something missing in my life and heart. Enzo.
Anyway, let’s get to the point. My entire life, my dad always taught me the importance of giving back to others especially during the Holiday’s. Since I no longer live in Miami, I can’t help stuff backpacks before school starts or help give out thanksgiving lunch on Thanksgiving at the nursing home, or even hand out presents on Christmas morning to those in need. But I have found a way to contribute here at Disney and it’s become my favorite way to contribute – Toys for Tots.
This year you can say I went a little overboard. Maybe because Enzo’s fourth birthday is approaching and I bought gifts that a 4 year old would want. Well, let’s say a little 4 year old girl would want. I bought a doll and a Disney themed Candyland game. Definitely went past the budget I wanted to set, but it’s for charity and it’s for two children that otherwise wouldn’t get presents for Christmas. Do you remember what you felt like getting presents on Christmas? Do you want someone else to miss out on that feeling because they aren’t as lucky as you? No. I sure don’t.
It’s not even about the money. It’s about the joy these children are going to feel on Christmas morning. That’s why I do it. I believe all children should experience joy in the Holiday season and if I can help give them that joy, then I am happy to help. Whenever I can, I try to share my blessings with the less fortunate. It’s something I was raised to believe in and do. To this day, I still believe it’s an important part of my life.
I also donate to the United Way every year without hesitation. Disney already knows, $26 auto deduction, when it comes time to donate to the United Way. It’s just something I programmed once I started and I never chose to stop it. I don’t think I ever will. I donate it to the local 211 to support family’s that need resources in the Central Florida area.
My Holiday wish is for more people to find something that tugs on their heart strings and start a new holiday tradition that will help others less fortunate. What we need in this world is more love, less hate. Just a thought. Here’s to a happy Holiday season and end of 2017! Thanks for letting me ramble 🙂
