After months of thinking, going back and forth, and debating whether I should take the leap and buy the Away Carry On – I finally took the leap! With my trip to Colorado next week, it couldn’t have come at a more perfect time either! See this beautiful carry on has so many great features I don’t even know where to begin!
I was so excited to buy a carry on, that I knew it needed to match my main suitcase which is of a navy color, So that is exactly what I chose: Navy. It came in a simple box with the AWAY logo, and once you opened it up inside there was a canvas bag around the suitcase. I was only too eager to open the bag…So of course, I carefully took out the bag and positioned it for a picture (I felt like a mother making her child pose for endless pictures!).
Here is where the fun began. I took the canvas off and positioned the bag so that I could see it in all of it’s beauty. Here is a shot from the very top, where you can see the tag, the TSA lock, the set up in the back for the charger (this carry on CHARGES your devices, I mean HOW cool is that!) and the clean buy easy to function exterior. (As seen in both pictures below).
Below is another picture of the exterior, this one with more of a view of the charging area. Now let’s open it up! Inside there are two pockets for packing. One that is enclosed as you can see on the left, and the other which is more open but has an enclosed portion you can buckle in to keep things neatly organized on top of what you have packed. The suitcase is 21.7″ which I think is a great fit for a carry on and I love the idea of this extra enclosed pouch as I like to call it because I can store important papers or even my laptop in this section over clothes, makeup, and other essentials to pack in a carry on.This is a better view of it laying down, more at an angle. AWAY even sent a little manual, an extra battery and cable for charging your iPhone or iPad (how did they know???) and the TSA key for the lock. I’m just so taken away by this carry on that it makes me want to stay at a hotel just for the night this weekend for the heck of it!
I travel from Orlando to Miami. a lot, so I can visit my parents (sometimes yay) and my grandmother (definitely yay). This AWAY bag is going to be the best investment I will have made this year by far. I’m already thinking of getting the bigger suitcase and replacing my regular suitcase with another AWAY luggage because I’ve such great things and I just love what I see. I mean it’s total love at first sight!
I am extremely picky when it comes to choosing suitcases because I like to have functional and lasting products. I do not like the type of bags that will die after a couple of uses. I mean I have had my suitcase for over 5 years already and it’s still in good shape, I could use an upgrade but it’s still in good shape. I never had a roll on carry-on though. I always used my sisters so I have been in the market for one and that’s where AWAY came in. I can honestly say I am truly excited for my trip next week and for the trips to come. Let the traveling bug continue to bite!
Have any of you heard about AWAY suitcases? Do you own any?
I’ve been in a slump lately. As some of you know, I battle depression and anxiety – mostly stemming from the loss of my son Enzo. For the last couple of months that depression has been heavy and I have been fighting it really hard to overcome and come out in the light (maybe that is why cutting my hair and “starting” over is so important to me). Anyway. it’s been really hard for me to really function – get up, go to work, go for a run, do my homework, focus on my assignments and projects, etc. I end up doing it, but it feels almost half-assed.
Well, I’ve come clean with my aunt, uncle, and two of my best friends. I hinted to my dad that I am struggling and I think he picked up on it but it is really hard for me to flat out admit my demons (it’s the scorpio in me). At this point it’s situational depression on top of the grief. I feel as though the grief manifests through certain situations in my life and during certain times of the year. Stress is also a huge factor. I usually journal, but I haven’t been doing that also for the lack of “care” I should say. Living with depression is hard. It’s an everyday battle and sometimes it’s a battle I lose.
One thing that I tell myself is that I will never give up, it doesn’t matter how bad the depression is or how hard it is for me to function. There are days when I really want to give up. I say I am going to and I feel like this is it, it’s the end. But I never give up. It’s not in me and It’s not who my son would want me to be. Regardless of everything I feel and everything I go through, I fight very hard for Enzo. I run for Enzo, I fight for Enzo, I live for Enzo, and I succeed for Enzo. Enzo is the reason I live. I will never let him down and that is what I remind myself when I hit rock bottom.
One thing I love to do is talk, but when I’m this down the last thing I want to do is talk. My best friends try to help me by asking what they can do but I don’t know how to answer. Be there I guess? I don’t really know. Talking is hard for me when I’m in this bad place. It’s actually easier for me to write or color or scream and cry. Talking is something I do when I’m happy or need a distraction, not when I’m sad and want to be left alone.
At the end of it all, I know I will come out of it. It doesn’t mean I won’t have my down days, but I know I’ll have my fun and light days too. I try to have those days more often. My goal is to be able to enjoy the holidays again. My birthday, Christmas, New Years…I’ll start with those first. Then I can work on Mother’s day and Thanksgiving…and so forth. For now, I just like to tell myself there is and will be a silver lining in all of this. I’ll get there eventually. It just takes time.
Have you or do you know anyone who suffers from depression? What do you do to help or get out of a funk? Leave me some comments below.
I have a very exciting announcement to make. I spontaneous decided that I wanted to switch up my hair, and I did! It was a normal Tuesday when I went around my office polling them about what kind of hair cut I should do. A trim? A lob? A bob? What? I even polled Instagram and the decision was unanimous – the lob had won so I went out on a limb called my hair salon and asked for an appointment. Luckily they had one for that night and I just went for it. Now, if you know me you know I’m afraid of cutting my hair. I literally will cry. If you didn’t know me, now you know. I can be the biggest baby when it comes to that. So what exactly did I do to my hair? Well, let’s take a look.
These are pictures of me before the cut. They were taken within the last month and a half and demonstrate the length of hair I had.
These are the pictures of me after I got my hair chopped off about 7-8 inches. Now for me to cut this much hair, I must either be crazy or be doing something out of the ordinary for me. The most I cut at one time is 3 inches. But that day I went for it. I usually am not a fan of short hair, but I have so much hair that I needed to do something fun and light for the summer. My hair feels so clean, healthy, and light now that I can’t wait to let it grow healthy. That’s been my problem, I’ve had so much product and hair dye in my hair plus I straighten and blow dry it so much that my hair was looking crunchy. Well not anymore! It is officially nice and clean and fresh!
Cutting my hair is a way of me starting over. I now have a bucket list to complete and I’m almost done with this semester of school so I am gearing up to have a few months off of school and dedicating more time to the blog and running. It’s exciting to have a chance to start fresh and really refocus my life. It’s been so hectic the last six months that I need this “do-over”.
What do you think, do you like the hair?
On this Travel Diaries post, I will be talking about my trip to Colorado in just a few weeks. I have been to Colorado before, but never in the summer which makes this even cooler. I’ll be going for a family friends wedding at the top of the mountain in Vail, but I am planning on making it a vacation while I’m there.
We will be staying at the Evergreen Lodge in Vail, Colorado for a week. The rooms are big and look beautiful, they have a nice lounge area and a beautiful pool. Their bar is supposedly rated the best in Vail.
While we are there, my aunt and I plan to do some fun activities. Those include white-water rafting, a hike up the mountain, zip lining, and a coaster on the mountain.
This is the view you see hiking up the mountain. I love walking, and I always see friends on Instagram hiking up beautiful mountains so I’m really excited to have this opportunity.
This is what the coaster on the mountain looks like. I absolutely love, LOVE, love rollercoasters and the idea of doing one at the top of a mountain is both terrifying and exciting at the same time. It’s called an “alpine coaster” which is basically a rollercoaster, wall climbing, and a bungee trampoline.
WHITE WATER RAFTING! I’ve done this before in North Carolina, but it’s nothing like these. This white water rafting trip can have class IV-V rapids! SO exciting.
I was also told that there is a concert series in Vail that is worth watching. It’s called Bravo! Vail. I’ll definitely be checking that out.
Of course you have the 4th of July fireworks to look forward to! Since my trip overlaps with the 4th of July, I get to see fireworks shot off while standing at the top of a mountain. Imagine the view! I can’t wait. I’m definitely taking my camera, my polaroid camera, and my iPhone.
This is the next big question. Stay tuned to a post about my new suitcase and what I’ll be packing for my adventure filled vacation!
So here is an update on my life. First, I am in week 5 of 8 for my two classes. I have never been more excited to be done with classes in my life. Between work and school, I have no life. But that’s going to change soon! Next week I’m taking a road trip down to Miami to see my family and friends. Then in 3 weeks, I’m heading out West to Colorado for a week long trip. A family friend is getting married there and my aunt and I turned it into a vacation while we were at it. That is around the time that my classes end and I’ll have a 3 month break from school!
Also, I made a post a few days ago about the #BlogHer17 conference. This will be my first ever blogging conference. I’m so excited.

We are already in June! Where has time gone?? I feel like I blinked and it just flew past me. Around this time of the year, I like to make a bucket list of things I want to try and accomplish before the last day of the year. Since I’ve been so busy with work and school the last couple of weeks, I feel like I haven’t gotten a single thing done that I’ve wanted to. This is where it’s left me, the half a year bucket list. So why don’t I just get started?
This bucket list are things I want to have accomplished by the end of 2017. It’s not always completely done, but I like to aim to finish them all. Here we go!
These are just some simple ones, but the list continues. Check below!
I think 10 is enough to go with for now. I can always add some extras later. Hopefully I can check these off as I go this year and actually complete a bucket list!
Do you have a bucket list?

In two days I will be off to New York and being the procrastinator I am, I have not started to pack. This weekend’s forecast will be rainy on Friday/Saturday with the temperature in the 50/60’s throughout the weekend.
You obviously can’t forget your phone charger. I’ll also be taking my laptop to finish a final while I’m there so I need my laptop and charger. Since I have an Apple Watch, I need to take that charger and the charger for my BeatsX headphones. Of course the usual undergarments and socks must be included. And you can’t forget any last minute details like sunglasses, a book, magazine, or iPad.
Overall, I’m really excited about my trip. There’s just something about the concrete jungle that does it for me. If I could live there, I would. Hands down.
I want to thank everyone for the love and support I received for this years March of Dimes, March for Babies. We were able to raise $1550! That more than doubled last year’s fundraising goal and pushed us into the Circle of Champions.
Donations are open through June 30th if anyone else would like to donate, but from the bottom of my heart I want to say THANK YOU. I couldn’t have done it without you.
